Larry Mannie, 89, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at his home in Freeland, Wash. Larry was born on March 6, 1928 at Hamar, N.D. to Eustache and Mary Maude Mannie. On June 19, 1949, he married Margaret Marie Opoien. To this union five sons were born. They made their home in the Hamar area, where they farmed until 1990. He was active in the community, serving on the township, elevator, church and school boards.
In 1990 they retired from farming and moved to Whidbey Island where he worked with his sons. In the last few years, Margaret and Larry split their time between Washington, Arizona and Kansas. Larry was proceeded in death by his father Eustache, mother Mary Maude, and grandson Keith.
His survived by his wife Margaret of 68 years; brothers Glen, Post Falls, Idaho and Rollin (Marian), Sioux Falls, S.D.; sisters Betty, McVille, N.D. and Donna, Tioga, N.D.; sons Lyle, Apache Junction, Ariz., Michael, Langley, Wash., Ross (Sharon), Norcatur, Kan., Gregory (Sharon Mae) Glendive, Mont. and Todd (Diane) Freeland, Wash. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are planned for June 2018 at Hamar, N.D. Interment will be in the Pekin cemetery, Pekin, N.D. Memorials may be sent to Todd Mannie, PO Box 1332, Freeland, WA, 98249.
