Leslie Jayne Burns, 64, passed away on June 30th, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Leslie was born on April 1, 1959, to P. Gary and Pierrette Donihee, in Hartford, Connecticut. Attended school in East Windsor, Connecticut graduating in 1977. She went on to school and earned her RN credentials and worked for over twenty years in the field. Leslie traveled the world as Navy wife, settling in Oak Harbor, WA. There she continued her career at Summer Hill Assisted Living. Leslie proudly worked as the Executive Director/RN at Summer Hill. Leslie cared for the residents with dignity and compassion. Leslie always greeted everyone with a smile and a hello.
Leslie leaves her partner of eight years, Corey Johnson, her son T. Wade Burns and his wife Cassy, three “bonus” children, Katelund Jones (Justin), Kyle, and Kelsey Johnson. Leslie was overjoyed to be “Gram” to T. Luke Burns.
With Corey behind the wheel, she loved traveling in their RV. As a dog lover she adored her loyal companion “Hank the Tank” and is rejoined with him in heaven. For the past four years she was the proud mom to “the kids” 2 chocolate labs, Charlie, and Lucy, who will miss her terribly.
Leslie was preceded in death by her father P. Gary Donihee. She is survived by her mother Pierrette Donihee, her two sisters Jean Donihee-Perron (Ben), Betsy Mazzotta (Dean). Special Uncle and Aunts, Jack Loftus (Beth), Linda Gallagher (Dr. Brian), Jean Ann Delton and several nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by many special friends she and Corey shared, especially Kate and Dave Krause, and Wayne and Linda Trumbull.
Whidbey Memorial will be handling arrangements to be held at The First Reformed Church on July 8th, 2023, at 3pm.
