Lilia Rosero Wunderly was an incredible mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 12, 2020 while visiting San Antonio, Texas. She was surrounded by her family.

Lilia was born to Mauro and Ernestina in the small city of Iriga, within the province of Bicol, Philippines. At a very young age she discovered her love for singing and the beautiful voice that accompanied it. She was very proud to share stories of the many famous people and dignitaries she had the opportunity to sing for, including late Philippine President, Ferdinand Marcos.

Lilia’s late brother-in-law introduced her to a young Navy sailor, Grey, who would become her husband. After many years of being stationed in Japan and the Philippines, they received orders to move to Oak Harbor, Wash., in August 1988 with their four children, Samuel, Theresa, Nadine and Catherine. They were very involved in the community, especially when their kids were young and were active members of the Filipino American Association and Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church. After 30 years, they decided to sell their home and split their time between their mountain retreat in Marblemount, Wash., Nadine’s home in Renton, Wash., and Theresa’s home in San Antonio.

Lilia was best known for the way she loved and served others. She was a second mom and “auntie” to many nieces, nephews, cousins and young friends who all became her extended family. Lilia opened up her heart and her home to anyone and everyone who needed a place to rest, a listening ear, loving support, godly advice, a warm meal — she was an amazing cook — or just a fun evening of karaoke. And she never passed up an opportunity to talk about her first and greatest love, Jesus. For almost 20 years she hosted Friday night Bible studies for anyone interested in feasting on delicious food while being fed the Word of God.

Lilia is survived by her husband Grey; son Samuel R. Wunderly; daughter Theresa Jane Wunderly Villanueva; daughter Nadine W. Stewart; son-in-law Duane A. Stewart; daughter Catherine Wunderly-Suarez; son-in-law Rafael A. Suarez-Torres; sister Gloria B. Larcena; and sister-in-law, Sarah Wunderly.

She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins and great friends who are like family.

A Celebration of Life service is being held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 12 at Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church, followed by a reception.
