Lillian W. Tucker, 97, died May 1, 2013, in Coupeville.
She was born in Clairborne Parish, La., on Dec. 22, 1916. Lil married Robert C. Tucker in Shreveport, La., in 1941 where they lived until starting the long journey to Alaska in 1945, which was documented in Lil’s first book, “My Life in Alaska.”
Lil also wrote a second book, “Alone on Whidbey Island,” after Bob’s passing in 1989. For many years after moving to Whidbey they ran Blue Gate Antiques on their Clinton property. Many South Islanders remember her waving at every car on her daily walks down Cultus Bay Road. Lil’s favorite days were Fridays, dancing at the Senior Center and also playing bingo.
She is survived by her nephew, Albert R. Tucker of Prairie Village, Kan., and her many friends on Whidbey Island.
Lil’s final resting place will be Arlington National Cemetery with her husband. At her request there will be no service.
Memorial donations may be made to the South Whidbey Senior Center or WAIF.
