Margaret D’Avanzo, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 16, 2019 at home. She was born on Sept. 17, 1927 to Daniel and Rose Gnozzo in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1944, she met Paul D’Avanzo, and they were married in 1947. She had three children, Denise (D’Avanzo) Perkins, Catherine (D’Avanzo) Murphy and Michael D’Avanzo, the favorite.
In 1965, she and Paul moved to Staten Island, N.Y., where she was an active volunteer in her childrens’ schools and she was a eucharistic minister at the Church of St. Clare.
In 1988, she and Paul moved to Whidbey Island, Wash. Her volunteering continued as she was part of the volunteer program at Whidbey General Hospital and South Whidbey School District. She was an active parishioner at St. Hubert’s Church as a eucharistic minister, president of several committees and a part of the Grief Ministry. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking for her family and friends. She also took great pleasure in supporting her husband in his various activities.
Preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Paul. Survived by her sister, Anntoinette Gnozzo; her children, Denise Perkins (Robert), Catherine Murphy, and Michael D’Avanzo (Stella,); six grandchildren, Dennis, Colleen, Brett (Betsy), Scott (Minhye), Paul, and Joseph, three great-grandchildren, John, Vincent and Ryan. She will be missed by all those who knew her.
A church service will be held 2 p.m. Dec. 27, 2019 at St Hubert’s Church, Langley, followed by a celebration of life reception.
