Margarethe “Maggie” Korvin, 61, was born on May 15, 1950 in Kornwestheim, Germany. She passed away from complications of cancer on February 14, 2012 at home on Whidbey Island.
She immigrated to the U.S. and the Seattle area in 1952 with her family. They settled in Ballard and attended Fremont Baptist Church where she was very active in the music and youth programs. She graduated from Lincoln High School and the University of Washington. While in school, she worked at Sivertsen’s Bakery on Capitol Hill. She later managed and co-owned J.P. Tannery/Immediate Family on Pier 70. Maggie went on to become a successful kitchen designer.
Her passion for entertaining and cooking led her to another career in catering and in 2000 she opened Ovations on Greenwood. Maggie was amazing! She was enthusiastic about life, her family and her friends. She was independent and strong as well as warm and loyal. She loved to throw parties-from intimate dinners to large themed gatherings. She had a gift of introducing people and was the consummate hostess. Her friendly, wonderful, charismatic personality was evident in the great number of people who call her friend.
In 2006 she moved to Whidbey Island to be closer to her parents and family where she continued her catering business and cooking classes.
During her life she traveled the world and felt fortunate to meet many great chefs along the way. Her generous spirit will be missed by all, especially by her parents, John and Theresia, brother Willy (Robyn, Grey and Levi), sister Beth (Gary, Lake and Leo),sister-in-law Consuelo, nieces Auzha, Crystal, Starr, and Genny. She was preceded in death by her brother John Korvin Jr. and nephew Joshua.
A special celebration will be held on April 14th at the Edmonds Senior Center from 2-5pm.
