Margaritt E. Lee Walters Strout
Margaritt E. Lee Walters Strout passed into the loving arms of Jesus Jan. 19, 2015. She was 90 years old and had a wonderful life! She was born May 16, 1924, in Gaffney, S.C., to Duncan Stokes Lee and Mary Ruth (Inman) Lee.
The family moved to High Point, N.C., when she was still young. She had a wonderful time growing up, graduating young and went onto business college to be a secretary. She spent countless hours dancing her evenings away at the U.S.O. and on the Carolina beaches. She joined the Air Force, on a whim, with her friend in 1948 and met the love of her life, Harold Allen “Bucky” Walters in San Francisco. After three months, they married on Dec. 15, 1951, and had 33 wonderful years together before he passed. They spent many happy hours golfing during the day and dancing at night.
They have two children, Steven Allen (Betty) Walters and Marta Lee (Roy) Walters Berry; grandchildren, Kelly M. Gosvener, Carrie E. Walters and Sheena Walters, Amanda Lee Mosler and Jacob A. Mosler, T.J., Dane and Cody Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Celina Walters, Kayla Gosvener, Gabriel and Natalie Gonzales.
She and Bucky traveled extensively during their marriage as Bucky was in the Air Force. They lived in California, South Carolina, Texas, France, Spain, Michigan and finally retired to the golf course on beautiful Whidbey Island in 1970. On their vacations, they took the family and visited as much of Europe as they possible could, probably visiting every single cathedral and golf course in Europe! Bucky was the Golf Pro at Holmes Harbor Golf and Country Club and clubhouse manager, and Margie ran the Pro Shop. In 1985 Margie met the second love of her life, Clarence C. “Buzz” Strout Jr., and married him. For 29 years, they laughed and joyfully shared many of the same interests, including the beach, jazz and dancing. The love of jazz took them to the Sun Vally Jazz Festival and other regional festivals. They took every opportunity possible to dance!! Remember the couple dancing down the isle at Payless Foods? Yep!! That was Margie and Buzz! With their marriage, she acquired new children, Steven Glen (Margot) Strout, Debra Lee (Paul) Strout Doces; grandchildren, Cooper and Abbey Strout, Chris (Amanda) Bender, Melina (Don) Carter and Michael Doces; and great-grandchild, Dominic Carter. We would also like to thank Kathy Rawls and their grandchildren, Amanda Mosler, Chris and Amanda (Burch) Bender and Michael Doces for helping to care for Margie and Buzz, thereby allowing them to continue living comfortably at home.
Services are being held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at the Bayview Cemetery, with a reception to follow at Holmes Harbor Rod & Gun Club. Refreshments will be provided — please bring a dessert to share.
