Marguerite Hough, born Jan. 10, 1920, passed away peacefully at the age of 89, on June 30, 2009.
Marguerite was born in Omaha, Neb., where she spent her youth before moving to California in the 1940s.
After her husband passed away in 2004, she moved to Whidbey Island to live with her daughter Bette. The last three years of her life were spent at Harbor Tower Village in Oak Harbor, where she made many friends and truly enjoyed participating in all the activities they have.
Marguerite is survived by her daughter, Bette Smith of Freeland; grandchildren, Joseph Smith, Pamela “Toby” Garretson and Ronald Smith with wife Crystal; great-grandchildren Mason David, Jamie Marie and Nicholas Paul Garretson, Melissa Jo Smith and Chase Paul Smith, all of California; nieces Donna Carter of Freeland and Patricia Paulson of Anacortes; nephew Ron Fredericksen of Omaha, Neb.
Margie, as she was known to her family and friends, was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hough; her parents Chris and Marie Fredericksen; her brothers, Henning, Harry and Hans Fredericksen and her sister Ann Kelley.
Margie will be very much missed by her family and be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. Margie was also a very good cook, and we will all miss her world famous potato salad, Danish layer cake and Knedliky and Zeli.
The final day of her life, Marguerite was blessed with being cared for by Enso House in Freeland. The family will be forever grateful for their wonderful care of both Marguerite and her family.
The family asks that any remembrances be made to Enso House.
