Mary Blais Salzwedel passed away Nov. 5, 2002, at Careage nursing home, Coupeville. She had been a patient at the home for about a year.
She was born May 26, 1912, to Alphonse Blais and Martha Zabel Blais near Faribault, Minn. She was one of 12 children. She married Palmer A. Salzwedel in 1936 in Faribault. In 1946 they moved to Seattle. They started the N&S Tool and Die Co., which later became Torrid Manufacturing Co. They resided in northeast Seattle and were members of Assumption Catholic Church. Palmer died in 1969 at age 53. Mary sold the business and in 1976 moved to the family’s summer home near Mutiny Bay in Freeland, where she lived until 1998.
She is survived by a brother, Dan Blais in Mississippi; a sister, Gertrude Gillis in Minnesota; a daughter, Yvonne S. Ladd (Robert S. Ladd Sr.) of Langley; four grandchildren, Robert S. Ladd Jr. (Helen) of Edmonds, Jeffrey T. Ladd of Everett, John C. Ladd (Teresa) of Everett, and Lisa Ann Ladd of Freeland; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Ladd, Analise Blakley, Katie N. Ladd and Amanda Ladd; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Holyrood Cemetery, Shoreline. Funeral arrangements are by Visser Funeral Home, Langley.
