Mary Jane Petosa Dunham

Mary Jane Petosa Dunham passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025, in the comfort of her home. Born in Chicago Illinois on November 7th, she was the beloved daughter of Mary and H. G. O. (Jerry) Weiler, and the youngest of three siblings. She was married to Charles Dunham in 1984 until his passing in 2016.

Mary Jane was raised in Seattle, attending Holy Names Academy and graduated from Queen Anne High School. Soon after, she married Robert L. Petosa. Her family life of raising six children began in North Seattle and in 1968 the family relocated to South Whidbey Island. Through hard work ethic and determination, she built a life of strength and sacrifice ensuring her children had the best she could give. A dynamic and accomplished businesswoman, she became a highly respected and successful realtor. She proudly served as a director on the Washington State Board of Realtors, making a lasting impact on the profession she loved. Beyond her career, she regularly found great joy in competing on and off the golf course at Useless Bay Golf and Country Club spearheading many fun filled events, competing in tournaments and Friday night bingo, and loved to win!

Mary Jane’s generosity and dedication extended far beyond her family. She was deeply passionate about the Forgotten Children’s Program and spent countless hours at the M-Bar-C Ranch in Freeland, giving her time, heart, and resources to those in need. Her home was always open, a place where family and friends gathered to celebrate holidays, milestones, and countless beachside get-togethers.

In her later years, Mary Jane cherished walking the shores of Mutiny Bay with her children and grandchildren, collecting rocks, driftwood, and shells, which she saw as canvases for her creative imagination—transforming them into faces, animals, and whimsical images. Her adored dog LuLu filled her days with joy and comfort for many years.

She leaves behind a loving legacy and much pride in her six children, Cheryl Petosa; Robert Petosa (preceded in death, 2016); Cindy Petosa; Jack Petosa (Kristin); Dina Hayes (Brad); and Kristi Sigel (Mark). Her family continues to grow, with 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who remain inspired by her strength and kindness. Her love for family extended beyond to many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Dunham and former husband Robert L. Petosa, her son Robbie, her parents, and three much admired brothers, Bud, Tom, and Jack Weiler.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of the Northwest, especially Kim and Sheena, for their compassionate care and support during this time.

Mary Jane’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and a lasting tribute of love and generosity will continue through those she touched.

In honor of her love for her Irish Heritage, a Celebration of Life gathering friends and loved ones will be held in the banquet room at Shawn O’Donnell’s on Thursday, April 24, from 3 PM to 5 PM – 122 128th St SE, Everett.
