Mary Lou Basom
1922-2016
Mary Lou Basom, age 93, died peacefully at her home at Maple Ridge Assisted Living on May 7.
Born in Tacoma on Dec. 8, 1922, to Matthias and Florence Louella Thiel, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Robert Lee, her youngest daughter Annie Bradford, and her grandchild Emily Craig.
Mary Lou was blessed with a fabulous husband and large family of six children, 18 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren. Bob and Mary Lou raised their family in Seattle and moved to Whidbey Island in 1971.
She was a member of St. Hubert Catholic Church and Useless Bay Golf and Country Club. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years. She enjoyed golfing, gardening, reading, needlework and doing crossword puzzles. She made a number of great friends on Whidbey Island over the years.
She is survived by her children, Robert Basom Jr. (Sharon), Carolyn Eagan (Chris), Jeffrey Basom, Katie Donohoue (David) and Mary Bakeman (Jeff).
The family would like to thank the staff at Maple Ridge Assisted Living and Hospice of the Northwest.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18 at St. Hubert Catholic Church, Langley.
