Myrna Twomey

Myrna Orr Twomey died on Oct. 29, 2009 after a two-year battle with cancer.

She was born to Conrad W. Orr and Violet Ardelle Orr on Feb. 4, 1938. She was proud to be a second-generation native of Whidbey Island.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sean P. Twomey, and her parents.

She is survived by her five children, Mariko Twomey (Doug Marks), Máire Twomey (Jack Young), Tadg Twomey (Jeanne Seiler), Niall Twomey (Valerie), and Sean Twomey (Kathleen); as well as by her five grandchildren, Kameko Twomey, Ciara Burgess, Liam Twomey, Elle Twomey and Thea Twomey.

Myrna was a founding member of a number of local organizations, including the Whidbey Environmental Action Network, the original South Whidbey Farmers Market in Bayview, Tilth, and the Island Food Buying Club. She was also involved in conservation issues including Classic U, Old Clinton Creek, and with her husband and another local family member, began the recycling effort on Whidbey Island. Two of her recent efforts were involvement in the organization of the Clinton Beach park and the renewed interest in converting the Clinton Progressive Hall into a Red Cross approved emergency shelter.

There will be a memorial potluck in her honor next summer, sometime around the summer solstice.

It was Myrna’s wish that any remembrances made in her honor be converted to support for one of the numerous organizations she felt strongly about: Good Cheer, the Clinton Progressive Association, Tilth, Friends of the Clinton Library and WEAN, to name a few.
