Noreen Atkins Zeine

Noreen Atkins Zeine was born Nov. 21, 1933 and passed away on Sept. 22, 2006 following an 18-year battle with cancer.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Zeine-Wright of Arlington; two sons, Daniel Zeine and wife, Debbie of Auburn and Patrick Zeine of Freeland; grandchildren, Dennis (Heather) Hafner, Heather (Troy) Lane, Delaine Crawford, Jonathon Morehouse and Alexander Zeine; four great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria Rigley of Renton; brother, Dick Atkins and wife, Marie of Port Ludlow and Ocean Shores; uncle, Herb York and his wife, Violet of Arlington; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Effie and Lee Atkins of Arlington.

During her 23 years as a Navy wife, Noreen made her family home in such places as San Diego and Oceanside, Calif., Portsmouth, Va., Waukegan, Ill., Kaneohe, Hawaii, Sasebo, Japan and Seattle.

Noreen was creative; she always made the most of any given situation. She enjoyed oil painting, writing, crafts, photography and gardening.

Prior to moving to Freeland in 1989, she lived 23 years in Edmonds, where she was employed at Alaska Northwest Publishing Company. While on Whidbey, she sold real estate for Whidbey Pacific Realty. One of her most enjoyable memories was the trip to England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales which she made with her mother.

Many will remember her for her smile and most will remember her sharp wit and humor designed to make them smile.

The family would like to thank the American Legion and all of the hospice nurses and volunteers for all of their help and support.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 at The American Legion.

Arrangements are under the direction of Visser Funeral Home.
