It iswith profoundsadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Anne Johnson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.Patriciapassed away surrounded by her loved ones on November 23, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and kindness that touched the lives of all who knew her. Born on August 12, 1944, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Patricia was raised in the charming town of Lahaina on Maui, where she developed a deep love for her family and her island home. She attended the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, where she earned her bachelors. Patricia worked as a banker and later as a medical office biller, demonstrating her sharp mind and diligent work ethic in every role she took on.
In her 30s, Patricia left Hawaii with her husband, Gary Johnson. Together, they lived in Colorado and Iowa, but eventually landed on Whidbey Island in their retirement years, joining the community where much of her large family had already settled. . Patricia is survived by her devoted husband, Gary Johnson; her sons Darren Almeida, Davin Almeida, and Jonathan Johnson; her daughter-in-law Kimberly Johnson; her cherished grandchildren, Kaloea Almeida and Leilani Potter; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters—Jennifer, Dawn, Josette, Maria, and Verity—her brother Joseph, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Dean Almeida, her sister Andrea Campos, and her mother, Verena Bryant.
Patricia’s generous and giving nature was unmatched. She loved showering her friends and family with thoughtful gifts, heartfelt phone calls, and the best hugs. Her sharp wit, warm humor, and deep kindness made everyone feel seen and valued. There was a purity and innocence to her spirit, a selflessness that defined her life. She loved wholeheartedly and livedwithunmatched grace.
Patricia also had a remarkable ability to stay connected with her roots and her cherished friendships. Even decades after graduating from high school, she’d attend reunions remaining close with her tight-knit group of high school friends, a testament to the enduring bonds she nurtured throughout her life.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Patricia’s memory to We Are Lahaina Strong to help rebuild her beloved Lahaina.
