Richard Charles Harrison (aka ‘Dick’, Mr. ‘H’), died on August 17, 2024 at Whidbey Hospital after an extended illness with rehab stays and skilled care facilities.
(Not his wish of the ‘way’)
He was born in Portland, Oregon to Clarence and Wanda (Wisenfluh) Harrison on March 16, 1937…and had one sibling, a sister, Jane. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Jane Meyers and his wife, Billie C. Barb. They had no children. He leaves a niece (Lori Meyers, and a nephew Matthew Meyers) and a sister-in-law, Diane B. Ahuna of Whidbey Island.
Richard was an avid championship fisherman with the Steel headers Association. He was a very humble, kind, gentle, soft-spoken man, and a devoted husband. His interests leaned artistically and was a woodcarver of ‘working’ water decoys; a retired real estate appraiser with his own business on the Island and surrounding counties for many years. He enjoyed cycling, fishing, chess, the SeaHawks, and boating.
He had received a BA from Seattle Pacific University in the 60s. He did volunteer work at Meerkerk Gardens on Whidbey and he and his wife enjoyed making several trips a year to Butchart Gardens.
Whidbey was a most significant place to him where he had purchased land in early 70’s, built a fishing cabin which later became a remodeled permanent home for he and his wife upon retirement as they both loved the Island, Island life, and the great community in which they lived.
