Richard Heggem, 74, died March 3, 2003, of lung complications.
He was born July 1, 1928, in Ballard. He was raised in Ballard, where he met and married his wife, Elloise, of 52 years. Mr. Heggem served in the Army and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska.
He moved his family to Whidbey Island in 1970. He retired from the sheet metal union and was also a commercial fisherman in Alaska.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, sailing and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by three daughters, Linda Greene of Clinton, Cherie Carter and her husband, Steve, of Langley, and Kathy Mathis and her husband, Mark, of Langley; 11 grandchildren, Jessica, Jeremy, Katie, Mary, Christine, Joe and Jimmy Greene, Sarah, Wayne and Austin Carter, and Andrew Mathis; and six great-grandchildren.
