Richard Raymond “Dick” Fournier passed away April 1, 2007. He died peacefully after complications from surgery.
Born on July 11, 1929, Richard was a longtime Freeland resident from the 1930s to the 1980s. He operated a herring trap in Holmes Harbor with his father in the 1950s-’60s, and was a home builder/cabinet maker in the 1960s and ’70s.
Richard married Dorothy Ann Anderson in 1953, she died of cancer in 1974.
He built and operated the Holmes Harbor Trailer Park in the 1960s through the 1980s.
Richard also built a fishing boat in his backyard, finishing the project in 1980. He moved to Port Angeles and built his final home in the mid-1980s.
He also earned the volunteer of the year award in 1997 for his work with the fisheries on the Fish Enhancement Program.
He married Mary Ann Meier in 1975, still surviving. Richard is also survived by his four children: Ray, Alice (husband Nils), Larry (wife Kat), Jerry (wife Laurie); sister Dorothy Touchy; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
