Richard Sutton: March 28, 1927 – July 29, 2024

Richard Ray (Dick) Sutton, 97, Bothell, WA, passed away on July 29, 2024. Hewas born on March 28, 1927, in Day Township, South Dakota to George and Virginia (Morey) Sutton. He attended Redmond High School, Dick enlisted in the Army in 1945. His service during WWII included deployment to the Philippines where he was assigned to the Army Engineers.

After his Army enlistment, he worked as a truck driver up and down the west coast. When he married Helen Martin in 1964, he decided to stay local and was employed by Cornwell Tools. He was with that company until he retired. Dick and Helen enjoyed traveling and cruising. They especially enjoyed their many trips to Hawaii.

Dick was a member of the South Whidbey Island Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award reflecting his commitment to “Service Above Self.” While Dick lived in Langley, WA, he enjoyed walking around the community, starting at his front door and ending at the back door.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother, Mark J. Sutton, Sr., and stepson Don Martin.

Dick is survived by his nieces and nephews, Dean (Heather) Sutton of Everett; Blanche (Steve) Saladino of Poulsbo; Mary V. (Ken) Thresher of Wenatchee; Mark J. (Glenna) Sutton, Jr. of Bremerton; Ray Sutton of Snohomish; and Brian (Stephanie) Sutton of Lake Stevens. He is also survived by his stepson and dear friends, Bob and Pat Martin of Woodinville. Dick also enjoyed being a loving grandpa to Adrienne, Andrea and Lane, and great grandfather to Logan and Alec.

Dick was a loving uncle and friend. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. He loved nature and enjoyed hiking the great outdoors. He was a generous and self-made man who will be missed by all who knew him.

At Dick’s request, there will be no formal memorial service.
