Rick Carey

Rick Carey, born Aug. 8, 1950, was with the comfort of loved ones at his home on Maxwelton Beach when he passed above us, Aug. 21, 2009, due to terminal cancer.

Rick is survived by his family, Barbara Carey, Chris Carey and Carmen Harris and family; his cousins, Dennis Carey and family, Pat Walters and family, and Marie Carey; and his aunt, Eva Carey, at addition to countless lifelong friends.

Rick’s military history started in Fort Lewis, training in light weapons Infantry and Airborne training.

He served in the Army in Vietnam as lead man and in the 101st Airborne from July 1970 to July 1971.

Rick’s honors include two Purple Hearts, an Air Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal and a National Defense Medal, an Army Commendation Medal with V Device for valor, a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Combat Infantryman Badge and two overseas service ribbons.

His passions in life included fishing, golf, coaching and playing softball, and of course, his drums.

Among other memories, Rick will always be famous for his homemade chili and spaghetti sauce, his love/hate relationship with the Seahawks and Mariners, his humor, his compassion, his unconditional love for his family and his honesty.

A celebration of life will be held in Rick’s honor from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 at American Legion Post 141. Members, family and friends are welcome. There will be a potluck.
