RL and Carol Chaney
R L Chaney (Ron) was born June 19, 1926, in Portland OR, and passed away on January 16, 2022. He graduated from the Army Air Corps aviation cadet program in 1949 and was first stationed at Malmstrom AFB near Great Falls, MT. Carol Chaney was born in Brockton, MT on September 21, 1932, and passed away on August 29, 2022. Carol graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1953 while working in Chicago, IL and then moved to Great Falls MT where she worked as a nurse at a local hospital. R L and Carol met in Great Falls, MT and were married only six weeks later.
R L’s career in the US Air Force provided great opportunities for travel. He flew many missions during the Korean and Vietnam wars and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. His Air Force career included aircraft flight instructor, Commander of KC-135 refueling tanker, and Squadron Commander of Aerial Port Squadrons in Japan and Dover AFB, DE. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 at the rank of Colonel. After retirement, R L, Carol and son Jerry moved to Utah, where R L and Carol started an apparel sales and screen-printing business. After selling their business, R L and Carol moved to Oak Harbor, WA. RL volunteered as a SCORE small business counselor and Carol became active in the Oak Harbor United Methodist church, Help House, and the Senior Center. Ron and Carol had a wonderful retirement, visiting many places throughout the world. R L and Carol are survived by son Jerry L Chaney (Margaret) of SLC, UT, two grandsons Matt (Haddie) and Nick Chaney, and their great-granddaughters, Zoe and Lyla Chaney all of UT. A joint memorial service will be held on Saturday April 22, 2023 1pm at Wallin Stucky Funeral Home in Oak Harbor.
