Robert Tribou

Robert Joseph Tribou, 83, former owner and operator of Cultus Bay Resort, died Jan. 23, 2004, at Veterans Hospital, Seattle, after a long struggle with heart-related problems.

He was born Sept. 21, 1920. He worked in his family’s bakery while growing up, and graduated from Garfield High School, Seattle. He joined the Army in 1940 and served in Burma until 1945. He moved to Whidbey Island around 1948 and owned and operated Cultus Bay Resort until 1962. Mr. Tribou sold real estate on the island and helped out at his son’s stamp and coin shop in Kirkland.

He was very active most of his life. He loved sports and the outdoors, especially fishing, both saltwater and freshwater. He loved telling stories, especially fish stories.

He was preceded in death by his only brother, Bill.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Tribou, of Lynnwood; two sons, Bob, of Bellevue, and Bill, of Lynnwood; a daughter, Sandra Kitz, Freeland; five grandchildren, Eric Tribou, Keith Tribou, Lani Brown, Miranda Tribou and Tina Yeakel; two great-grandsons, Jonathan and Jacob Brown; and a nephew, Jeff Tribou, Clinton.
