Roger “Mike” Gibbons passed away March 26, 2009, at the wonderfully peaceful Enso House on Whidbey Island surrounded by family members.
He is survived by his son and wife, Roger “Nick” and Maria Gibbons; father and stepmother, Stan and Gayle Gibbons; sisters and husbands, Sally and Henri Hardenberg, and Leslie and Allen Reed; brother and wife, Kurt and Vivian Gibbons; and nieces and nephews Jessica, Isabella and Peyton.
Mike loved Whidbey Island and particularly Bush Point where he lived, fished, crabbed and took long beach and trail walks with his beautiful dog Bella.
He was a landscape gardener until his cancer prevented continuing the work he loved. Mike was so proud of his Eagles Club membership and the many friends he developed at the club.
The Eagles Club and Readiness To Learn Foundation offered amazing support to him when his illness was discovered. Pam and Kelly from Home Health Care and Hospice of Whidbey General took great care of him as hospice nurse and social worker from the first day they met him until the day he passed and we will be forever thankful for all their support and compassion. The caregivers and volunteers at Enso House provided 24-hour care and comfort beyond imagination and Mike was surrounded by loving hands and hearts the last several weeks of his life. We urge you to support and donate to any of these wonderful organizations. We will truly miss him.
A celebration of life will be held for Mike at the Eagles’ Club (321-5636) at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11. Please join us for a farewell toast.
