Ronald G. Charron

Ronald George Charron, a resident of Clinton, passed away at Whidbey Island Manor, Oak Harbor on Aug. 19, 2006 at the age of 63.

He was born Nov. 4, 1942 in Omaha, Neb. to Lowell Edward and Ruth Elaine (Reynolds) Charron.

Ron was raised in Salinas, Kan., where he graduated from high school. Wishing to serve his country, Ron enlisted in the Navy in 1964. He was discharged in 1967. He settled in California, where he attended Diablo College in Pleasanton. He received an associate’s degree in electrical engineering and began his career as an electrical engineer. For many years he was an engineer on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, the suspension bridge which connects San Francisco with Oakland across Yerba Buena Island.

Ron left the Bay area in 1980 and moved to Port Orchard, re-establishing himself as an electrician. His first wife preceded him in death.

In 1992, Ron was introduced to the daughter of a church friend. That introduction sparked a romance and on Jan. 22, 1993, Ron was married to the former Marlys E. Bartz.

Ron was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1985. The effects were minimal for a long time. In 1994, he and Marlys set out on a 4½-month tour of the western United States in their fifth wheel, making their way to the Midwest. The following year the MS manifested itself and Ron was no longer able to travel.

Ron loved to work with electronics and his basement workshop was constantly busy. Even as the MS confined him to a wheelchair, he continued wiring a home on South Whidbey, completing what he could from his chair and giving guidance to those assisting him in the overhead areas. He also enjoyed working in his yard. Ron was known for his wonderful, positive attitude.

Ronald Charron is survived by his wife Marlys at the family home; by one stepson, Carl Wieland of Bothell; by three sisters and one brother, Carol Jack of Stockton, Calif., Bobbie Zybert of Dawson Springs, Ky., Don Charron of Palacious, Texas and Patty Charron of Springfield, Neb.

Memorial services for Ronald Charron will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Clinton with Rev. Mikkel Hustad officiating.

Cremation was held with inurnment to follow at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Washington, 192 Nickerson St., Seattle, WA 98109 or to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank the staff of Whidbey Island Manor for the outstanding care they provided Ron. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral

Chapel, Oak Harbor.
