Russell Jacobson

Russell “Jake” Jacobson of Freeland passed away on May 17, 2011 at the age of 91.

He was the son of Erick and Norge Jacobson. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers Ray, Lowell, Ernie and Maurice. He is survived by his wife Martha; his son Bruce; his grandson Duncan; and nephews Richard and Dennis.

“Jake” met the love of his life Martha (Cooper) in 1941, and they were married on March 20, 1942. They made their home on Whidbey Island for the past 66 years enjoying fishing, golfing, woodworking and the beautiful nature of the island.

“Jake” enlisted in the Navy in 1938 as a seaman and retired 27½ years later as a full commander. He participated in World War II (Pearl Harbor survivor) and the Korean War.

“Jake” worked in the Seattle Fire Department for 24 years and retired a senior division chief. He was involved in many other activities including Masonic Order, real estate, teaching, American Legion, Kiwanis, fishing and dancing. He will be missed by many.
