Our bright star passed away unexpectedly in Galveston, Texas. Sara dreamed big, loved deeply and accomplished so much in her short time on earth. Born to Jennifer Jackets in Wenatchee, Wash., she brought immense joy and laughter to all that knew her.

Sara graduated high school from Oak Harbor High School in 2000, continued her education at Gonzaga University and earned a BA in business administration from Seattle Pacific University in 2004.

She earned her master’s degree from Seattle University in business administration in 2007.

Her work history was varied but it all lead her to serving with the United States Army Corp of Engineers beginning in 2012. While with the USACE, she was stationed with the Omaha District, TransAtlantic Afghanistan District, Fort Worth District, Seattle District, USACE Headquarters in Washington, D.C., and the Galveston District.

She was selected as one of the 12 Department of Army Civilians to attend the U.S. Army, Command & General Staff College.

Her dream of living near a beach came true, when she earned her job as a procurement analyst for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers for the Galveston District.

While stationed in Afghanistan, she met her true love, (although at the time she didn’t know realize it), Johnny Deyermond, who was part of the military support staff protecting the Kabul station.

They reconnected when they both were in Washington, D.C. and, as the say, “the rest is history.” They actually got married twice. Sara and Johnny married in a small private ceremony in October 2016 unbeknownst to us all and then married “again” on Whidbey Island, Wash., in March 2017. That was the how she took on life and love, with strength, conviction and unwavering faith.

She traveled the globe in her young life and as an adult as well. From being stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, she also spent time in Bali, Belize and traveled the United States accomplishing the “bucket list” of visiting, living or seeing 49 of the states.

Sorry, Rhode Island, she never visited your beautiful state.

Sara was preceded in death by her GG (great grandmother) Caroline Yudinsky; her sweet nana Lou Mahler; and, unfortunately, her love Johnny followed her in death 12 days later.

She is survived by her mother Jennifer Jackets; grandparents Michael and Anne Jackets; uncle Michael Jackets; aunt and uncle Peggy and Mark Angell; and cousins Dylan Angell and Jonathan Marti.

A private celebration of life will be held at a future date.
