Seldon Scott Hazelo

Seldon Scott Hazelo, age 17, died suddenly on Feb. 4, 2006 in an automobile accident on Highway 20 north of Oak Harbor.

He was born in Lansing, Mich. on Sept. 15, 1988 to Timothy Scott and Maria Lynn (Rogers) Hazelo.

Seldon moved with his military family, first to San Diego, Calif. then to Jacksonville, Fla., Lubbock, Texas and finally to Oak Harbor. He attended Coupeville Elementary School for a time and then began his education in Oak Harbor at Hillcrest Elementary. He continued on to Oak Harbor Middle School and finally to Oak Harbor high School, where he was a junior.

Seldon was an athlete. His passion was football, where he played as a running back for the Wildcats for the past three years. He also wrestled and ran in track, participating in the 4×400 relay, the 800 meter and the 300 low hurdles. He was also a member of NJROTC during his freshman year. He was an avid dirt-bike rider. This past Christmas, he volunteered with the Forgotten Children’s Fund.

Seldon is survived by his parents, Tim and Maria Hazelo; two brothers, Kris Kaplan and Timothy “Landon” Hazelo, all of Oak Harbor; his grandmothers, Judy Hazelo of Lansing, Mich. and Mary Garcia of Oak Harbor; and one great grandmother Irene Taylor of Lansing.

Memorial services for Seldon Hazelo were held Friday, Feb. 10 at Parker Hall, Oak Harbor High School with Pastor Jim Mikos officiating. Cremation will follow with private family inurnment to follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Seldon’s name to the Oak Harbor Education Foundation, c/o Oak Harbor School District, 350 S. Oak Harbor Street, Oak Harbor, WA 98277, designated for the Memorial Stadium Fund. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
