Sherman (Sherm) Wortman, 87, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham, WA in the early hours of Monday July 25, 2022.
He was born in Somerville, NJ on September 12, 1935. He lived with his parents Sherman, Sr. and Anne Wortman in Peapack, NJ. He graduated from Bernardsville High School in 1953. Sherm enlisted in the USAF in 1954 and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1974. In 1955 he married Joan (Ramsey) his high school sweetheart. They had two children: a daughter Dorothy and son David. When he retired from the Air Force they lived in Marysville, CA until 1995 when they moved to Whidbey Island.
Sherm attended Episcopal churches and served as a licensed lay reader for over 40 years. He was a member of Kiwanis for more than 30 years and held many offices both in local clubs and in the Pacific Northwest District. He was also active with Senior Services of Island County for many years.
Sherm is survived by his wife of 67 years Joan, his daughter Dorothy Hammond of Freeland, WA and son David (and Elizebeth) Wortman of Tigard, OR. He is also survived by his granddaughter Allison Wortman of Seattle, WA and grandson Brandon Wortman of Chico, CA. His sister Shirley Casey lives in Pontiac, IL.
