Sidney Bruce Richards, 87, died May 3, 2003, at Quail Hollow in Richland, where he had lived since January.
He was born Aug. 16, 1915, in Tahlequah, Okla., to Roddie and Grace Richards.
He was raised in Muskogee, Okla., and earned a degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
In 1939 he married Doris Avey and together they raised two sons. She died in 1965.
In 1969 he married Genevieve Smith and they lived in London until they retired in 1977 and moved to Langley. Both were active members of St. Hubert Catholic Church, Langley Community Club, Island County Fair and Whidbey Island Pebble Pushers.
He also was active in the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, and enjoyed golf and playing poker. They both enjoyed traveling. She died in 2001.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia Richards and Mary Willis Reed.
He is survived by two sons, Bill, and his wife, Margaret, of Kennewick, and Bob, and his wife, Jeanne, of Wickenburg, Ariz.; stepson Jim Smith and his wife, Laurie, of Langley; grandchildren Mike Smith and wife Deeanna, Jeanne Carty and husband, Shawn, Lee Richards, Rex Richards, Bob Van Lear, Keith Van Lear and Vicki Gire; and many great-grandchildren.
Holy Rosary will be at 1 p.m. today, followed by a mass at 2 p.m., both at St. Hubert Catholic Church, Langley.
