Thelma Ireton

Thelma Stangier Ireton, age 87, passed away on July 22, 2013. Born on Sept. 30, 1925 to “Trudy” and Delbert Weaver in Castle Rock, Wash.

Thelma later settled in Pendleton, Ore., where she graduated high school and married Jack Stangier in 1945. After Jack’s death in 1969, she moved to Whidbey Island, Wash. where she raised her two sons.

Thelma was active in the United Methodist church, a member of the school board, baked desserts for a French restaurant and managed a boutique in Langley.

A devoted wife and mother and loyal friend to many, she will be remembered for her sense of style, her incredible ability to cook, the helping hand she lent to many and most recently for the dignity with which she faced her long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She is survived by her older sister Verys Myer, her sons John and Jack Ireton, their spouses Brandi and Michelle, grandchildren Rhonda, Jackson, Benjamin, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Devun, grandchildren Cody, Cayleen, Cassie, nephew Jim Stangier and niece Jan Carey.

Burial will be private and a memorial service to celebrate her life will be held later this year.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
