Timothy Scott Abernethy, 43, of Cypress, Texas passed away Dec. 7, 2008 in Houston, Texas.
He was born April 12, 1965 in Corpus Christi, Texas. In 1974 his family moved to South Whidbey where he attended local schools, graduating from Lighthouse Christian School in 1983.
After spending eight years in the Navy, Tim joined the Houston Police Department, where he worked in various capacities including the bike patrol, dive team and gang task force. At the time of his death, he was completing his training for the elite bomb squad unit.
Tim was a decorated officer serving with distinction and honor. He was highly respected by his peers and will be greatly missed by those with whom he served. His family feels blessed to have had him in their lives and know that he is in heaven with his younger brother Christopher Jon Abernethy, who preceded him in death in 2006.
Survivors include his loving wife, Stephanie; son, Timothy Scott Abernethy, Jr.; daughter, Olivia Ann Abernethy; parents, Chuck and Peg Abernethy of Coupeville; and siblings, Lyn Campbell and husband Doug; Margaret Ann Salazar and husband Pete; David and Ganjana Abernethy, and Philip and Carrie Abernethy. Extended family members include Shirley Ramacher of Coupeville, Bob and Jeanne Matheson of Canada, Anne and Ted Beeston of Oregon, Rev. David and Mary Jo Bersagel of Wisconsin, John and Ollie Stevens, Gary and Theresa Dirker, Steve and Sherry Turnbow, and Dan and Amy Snow of Texas, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the 100 Club, a Houston organization that provides support for dependents of Houston police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. (http://www.the100club.com/home.html)
