Virginia Mae Berkeland, 90, of Urbandale, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Urbandale Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, March 7, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Urbandale, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8 at Norway Township Cemetery near Kanawha, Iowa.

Virginia was born on March 23, 1923, in Palo Alto County, Iowa, to Bertel and Blanche (Olson) Berkeland. She worked as a Registered Nurse, finishing her career in Washington state. She lived in the Des Moines area since 1998. She was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church and the Daughters of Norway.

Virginia is survived by her brother Harold (Marian) Berkeland of California, two sisters-in-law Jeanne Berkeland of Minnesota and Eileen Berkeland of Washington, her brother-in-law Oliver Kienholtz of Washington, many nieces and nephews and their families.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Irene Franson, Robert Berkeland, Doris Kien-holtz, Marvyn Berkeland and Iola Kalvig.
