William V. Dunning, 69, who resided at Goss Lake, died Sept. 21, 2003.
He was born Oct. 29, 1933, in Glendale, Calif., to Billie Jolly and Otto B. “Judge” Dunning. He earned bachelor’s and master’s of fine arts degrees in sculpture from the University of Southern California and an MFA in painting from the University of Illinois. He was a professor of art at Central Washington University for 35 years, and in 1995 was awarded the Distinguished University Professor Award for research and artistic accomplishment. He painted and exhibited in shows for several years and later published three art books.
His teaching career was one of the high points of his life. He loved sharing his knowledge and time with students, and was always generous with encouragement. His enthusiasm for exchanging ideas never faded and he loved sharing them, as well as stories, with his friends and others.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sandra Jane Dunning; and three children, of whom he was so proud, Stacey Rain Dunning of Grafton, N.Y., Amy Snow Holbrook of Olympia, and Judge Blue Dunning of Ellensburg.
A memorial gathering will be held at his home at 1p.m. today, Sept. 27.
