Winston R. Alexander, 73, a 13-year resident of Coupeville, died Jan. 22, 2003, at Careage of Whidbey.
Mr. Alexander was born March 31, 1929, in Plainview, Neb., to Harold Lynn Alexander and Frances Enid (Lamb) Alexander. He lived for a time in Coupeville as a child and attended elementary school there. He later attended St. Martin’s Academy in Olympia, and graduated from Oak Harbor High School. During his year at Oak Harbor, he worked at Whidbey Press. Following high school graduation, he worked for the Aberdeen Daily World for a time, and then the Jensen Weekly in Fairbanks, Alaska, for five years. He came to Seattle and was a printer at the Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau before starting the Mayfair Press Co. in Seattle, which he operated until he retired to Whidbey Island in 1990.
He is survived by sons Robert Alexander and wife Angela of Stanwood, Michael Alexander of Colville and Mark Alexander of Kent; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Wells of Coupeville; and two brothers, Bill Alexander of Clinton and Don Alexander of Yuma, Ariz.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 8 at Sunnyside Cemetery with Pastor David Engle officiating. Arrangements and cremation under direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
