By the 25th minute, Archbishop Murphy had more than enough goals to defeat South Whidbey girls soccer Thursday.

By the end of the first half, the Wildcats held a 4-0 lead and mirrored their scoring in the final 40 minutes to defeat the Falcons 8-0. It was South Whidbey’s second-worst loss this season after being wrecked by King’s 9-0 on Tuesday. South Whidbey has yet to win a match in October this season.

The Falcons, already playing with a small roster, were again without freshman forward Leah Rostov, who suffered a season-ending collarbone injury last week.

South Whidbey (2-7-0 Cascade Conference, 2-9-0 overall) has struggled defensively. To date, the Falcons allowed 40 goals through 11 games and held opponents to either a single goal or less only four times. The Falcons’ offense hasn’t fared much better, scoring only six goals all season and being shut out in seven contests.

The Falcons will look to rebound and claim their first win of the month on Tuesday against Coupeville, a team they beat earlier this year. The Wolves are 1-7 against conference teams this season and 1-8 overall. Only Coupeville has scored fewer goals against conference opponents than South Whidbey with four.

South Whidbey also gets to face Sultan, the other win this season, on Oct. 22 at home. The Falcons, however, will also face Archbishop Murphy in Everett later this month before finishing the regular season at Granite Falls on Oct. 26.
