The South Whidbey duo of Levi and Ranger Buck is one win away from qualifying for the state tennis tournament.
The brothers won a loser-out match in the consolation semifinals Monday, Oct. 21, in the bi-district doubles tournament at the Woodinville Tennis Center.
They now play the top team from University Prep at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle for third place and the final berth awarded Districts 1 and 2 for the state tournament.
Senior Levi and sophomore Ranger, who won two of three matches Saturday, qualified for the third-place match by knocking off Overlake’s No. 1 doubles team, Sammy Yang and Declan Vail, Monday.
Earlier this year, the Overlake pair defeated the Falcons 6-4, 6-4. The Owls followed that by taking the first set Monday 6-3.
The Bucks bounced back to win 6-4, 6-4.
“Well, the guys brought it today,” their mother and South Whidbey coach Karyle Kramer said. “It was close, but the difference was this time Levi and Ranger played to win; they acted like they knew they could. Their confidence is better; their game is better.”
