Cedarcrest won a decisive third and final game over the South Whidbey baseball team Friday, ending the game early with a 10-0 victory.

The game was called after the top of the fifth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule. It was both the first time South Whidbey lost a game to the mercy rule and the first time the Falcons failed to score a run this season.

Cedarcrest pitcher Adam Davenport recorded six strikeouts in the victory. The Red Wolves’ top slugger, Colton Sandhofer, hit a double in a 3-for-3 day at the plate. The victory kept Cedarcrest (6-2 Cascade Conference, 6-2 overall) firmly in second place behind Archbishop Murphy in league standings.

South Whidbey (3-5 Cascade Conference, 4-5 overall) fell to fourth place.

The Falcons went through four pitchers — CJ Sutfin, Nick Bennett, Trent Fallon and Brent Piehler — across the five-inning game.
