Young people looking to learn shooting safety can head to Coupeville.

Starting in July, the Central Whidbey Sportsman’s Association will host a free, four-hour youth firearm safety class. The class is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 13 at the clubhouse located at 397 Safari Lane, across from Morris Road off Highway 20, just south of Coupeville.

The shooting ranges will be open for instruction afterward. Participants may bring their own firearm or use guns owned by the club for this training session. It is also suggested that students bring lunch or some snacks.

Topics cover the skills needed to handle a loaded firearm and how to make it safe.

Instructors are retired, veteran law enforcement officers and have taught this course many times before.
