South Whidbey High School’s Mackenzee Collins was named to the Washington State Softball Coaches Association first-team, all-state squad last week.
Collins was one of three pitchers selected for the first team along with Shelby Claasen of Lakeside and Trinity Naugle of Castle Rock.
Claasen was also selected as the 1A Player of the Year.
The only other 1A Cascade Conference player to receive all-state honors was Cedar Park Christian’s Cheyenne Nelson, who was an honorable mention infielder.
Several 2A Cascade Conference players were honored: Cedarcrest’s Cassidy Derieg, second team pitcher, and Michaela Carter, honorable mention first baseman; Granite Falls’ Jaiden Waud, second team outfielder; and Archbishop Murphy’s Brooke Jordan, honorable mention pitcher, and Lexi Klaudt, honorable mention outfielder.
