The Whidbey Crabs swept the Maltby Wildcats on Sunday in a doubleheader, 12-4 and 7-0.

The doubleheader finished their inaugural Mountlake Terrace Youth Athletic Association season.

Hitting rallies gave the Crabs an early lead against the Wildcats, spearheaded by Jordan Henriot’s team-high three hits. Mo Hamsa, Trent Fallon and Peter Jacobs each had two hits. Jacobs pitched through six innings and was relieved by Kohl Hunter, who closed out Maltby in game one.

Brent Piehler shut out the Wildcats in game two through six innings with nine strikeouts. He was supported by Ricky Muzzy who finished the shutout in the seventh inning. Hamsa and Fallon repeated their game one at-bat performances with two hits each, and Muzzy joined the club with two hits also.

Earlier in the week, the Crabs finished in second place in the MTYAA Knockout Tournament in Mountlake Terrace. The crabs lost in the championship game to the Terrace Cubs 6-3.

The Crabs completed their season with 21 wins and seven losses. Highlights for the season were the MTYAA League Championship, a third-place finish in the Memorial Tournament and a solid second-place in the MTYAA Knockout Tournament.

Before the season began, the Crabs planned to repair and restore Dave Mackie Park to play on as their home field. Falling short of that goal, the team was busy on Saturday working with the South Whidbey Rotary on construction of new dugouts.

The community-service project will continue through the summer as the Crabs work with Island County and the South Whidbey Rotary to make improvements to the ball park.

The Rotary and the Crabs will meet on July 8 to finish the dugouts, plan an upgrade to the backstop area and review other potential improvements.
