South Whidbey girls claimed five of the top six spots in the 800-meter race.

Their finish and dominance in the distance races helped South Whidbey place second against Archbishop Murphy and Coupeville at Thursday’s three-way track-and-field meet.

Three cross country runners claimed the top three spots in the 800. Falcon senior Emily Martin won the race in 2 minutes, 33 seconds. Sophomore Lilli Stelling was close behind with 2 minutes, 33.8 seconds. Nora Felt, a sophomore, claimed third place in 2 minutes, 45.8 seconds. Madi Boyd and Taya Jae finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Felt also won the mile in 5 minutes, 53.7 seconds. Freshman runner Jaime Rodden claimed third place in the mile in 6 minutes, 5.1 seconds.

Stelling won the 3,200 meter race in 12 minutes, 36.8 seconds, and Martin finished second in 13 minutes, 8.7 seconds.

South Whidbey girls also swept the 400-meter race honors. Sylvie Kaul-Anderson won first place in 1 minute, 7.82 seconds. Boyd finished in second place with 1 minute, 8.19 seconds. Sarah Cepowski finished third in 1 minute, 12.76 seconds.

Sophomore thrower Angelina Berger almost swept the throws. She won the javelin with a throw of 114 feet, 1 inch, and the discus with a throw of 105 feet, 1 inch. Berger finished second in the shot put with 33 feet, only three inches from first place.

Sophomore sprinter Anna Hood finished third in the 100-meter dash in 14.2 seconds.

Kaul-Anderson finished in second place in the 100-meter hurdles with 18.78 seconds.

The boys team finished in third place and didn’t have a first-place finisher. South Whidbey’s boys 400-meter relay would have won first place in 48.8 seconds, but was scratched, and Coupeville won the relay.

Senior distance runner Ben Saari finished second in the 3,200 meter in 11 minutes, 3 seconds.

Falcon freshman Caleb Hellinger finished second in the 110-meter hurdles in 19.65 seconds. Junior Steven Sutton claimed second place in the 300-meter hurdles in 49.72 seconds.

Junior Colton Justus finished third in the discus and javelin, with throws of 99 feet, 3 inches and 110 feet, 11 inches, respectively.

Returning triple jump state champion Will Hallberg did not compete in the triple jump or long jump. Without Hallberg, Sutton won third place in the long jump with 16 feet, 3.5 inches.

Freshman Cooper Nichols won second place in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches.
