Eastside Prep avenged a 3-2 loss to the South Whidbey tennis team by topping the visiting Falcons 4-1 Monday, Oct. 15.
The match wrapped up the regular season for South Whidbey (5-8). The bi-district tournament is Friday, Oct. 19, at the Amy Yee Center in Seattle.
In Monday’s finale, South Whidbey’s Brent Batchelor “had a stellar performance,” according to coach Karyle Kramer.
Batchelor, playing second singles, trailed 4-1 and 5-4 in the first set but rallied for a 7-5 win. He cruised to a 6-1 win in the second set.
“More than the win, he has been working on his composure and attitude,” Kramer said. “On top of recovering from a hand injury, he just brought everything to the table tonight — it’s like he finished the puzzle. A great ending for him.”
Kramer added that the doubles teams of Ian Maddox/Soren Bratrude and Ranger Buck/Cormac Workman played well “but just couldn’t close it” in a pair of good matches.
