Errors help sink Falcons / Softball

Sloppy defense torpedoed the South Whidbey High School softball team in its 8-2 loss at Grant Falls Thursday, April 19.

The Falcons committed nine errors and surrendered six unearned runs.

The South Whidbey offense wasn’t much better, mustering only four hits.

Both Falcon runs came in the first inning. With two outs, Bella Northrup and Mackenzee Collins singled, then both scored on Natalie Wilmoth’s base hit.

The Falcons registered only one other hit in the game, a sixth-inning single by Northrup.

The two runs held up until the fourth inning when the Tigers scored two runs to take a 3-2 lead.

Granite Falls (2-3, 4-5) added four runs in the fifth to pull away.

Collins took the loss in the circle despite striking out 13 in six innings. She gave up seven hits, one walk and two earned runs.

South Whidbey (4-3, 7-4) hosts Cedar Park Christian-Bothell (3-5, 5-7) at 4 p.m. Monday, April 23.
