The Falcon baseball team lost 9-1 to the Sultan Turks on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader.

Errors dictated the game.

The Falcons committed six errors. Of the nine Sultan runs scored only three were earned.

The lone Falcon run came in the fifth inning when Ammon Christensen picked up a two-out single to right field. Christensen then scored on Aaron Curfman’s double to center field.

Curfman led all Falcon hitters, going 2-3 on the day.

South Whidbey fared better in the second game, but still lost to Sultan 14-9.

It was a hitting parade. Both teams combined for 27 hits.

In the Falcon second inning, Cameron Wildes led off being hit by a pitch. Christensen followed with a single. Both scored on Curfman’s double to right-center field. Curfman advanced to third, then scored on Michael Agate’s sacrifice fly to center field.

The Falcons then picked up three more runs in the fifth inning. Jack Lewis hit a lead-off single. Austin Bennett hit a double down the right-field line. Ben Ross scored two RBIs with one of his three hits on the day. Ross then scored the third run of the inning on a perfect squeeze bunt by Colton Sterba.

The Falcons went down fighting in the last inning when they scored another three runs. Bennett was hit by a pitch. Ross doubled to right center. Bennett scored on a ground ball. Ross and Christensen scored on Curfman’s second hit of the game.

Falcon pitchers gave up too many hits, though. Sultan scored four runs in both the fourth and sixth innings, which proved the difference. They combined for nine hits in both innings.

Curfman finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs, and Ross was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
