LANGLEY – The Falcons could have played better in a 34-27 win over island-rival Coupeville on Tuesday night.
After the victory though, South Whidbey’s girls basketball players admitted satisfaction at being 4-0 in Cascade Conference games for the first time in several years.
Falcon junior Ellie Greene gave South Whidbey the lead on their first play of the second quarter. She got an interior pass, spun to her left and snapped the twine for a short jump shot, 8-6.
South Whidbey maintained and extended its lead from there, en route to a 34-27 victory. It was the fourth conference win for the Falcons, who have yet to lose a league contest.
Falcon junior Hayley Newman and Greene led the Falcons with 12 points each, accounting for 70 percent of South Whidbey’s scoring.
Wolves senior guard Cassidi Rosenkrance was Coupeville’s top scorer with 11 points, though two came after the final buzzer sounded on free throws.
