The South Whidbey volleyball team traveled to Cedarcrest Monday and secured its second victory of the young season.

“We swept Cedarcrest in three straight games, winning 25-21, 25-11 and 25-18,” said Falcon coach Mandy Jones. “After getting the first game jitters over with, the Falcons played their match, and played like they wanted to win.”

Kelsie Dorpat had 14 assists, Katie Holt had four kills, Allison Wood had 11 kills and Cayla Calderwood had six kills. Brittany Wood served a tough match without missing and had six aces, Jones noted, and Linden Firethorne had three huge blocks.

“Yes, our stats should have been higher, but a win is a win, and the girls and I know what we need to work on to beat Sultan and King’s,” Jones said.

This is the second year for Jones at the helm of the girl’s team.

“We’re headed in the right direction because the girls have worked their collective hearts out to ensure this is a winning season,” she said.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, the girls host the Sultan Turks in Erickson Gym.
