The Falcon baseball team overcame its four errors to win its third game in five tries as South Whidbey swept archrival Coupeville 3-2 on Wednesday.

Cameron Wildes scattered four Coupeville hits on the day and walked one batter. Wildes was backed up with some strong defense, and both of Coupeville’s runs were unearned.

Coupeville took an early lead in the game as it picked up two unearned runs in the first inning. A lead-off walk and two errors on one play scored both runs for the Wolves.

In the top of the second inning, the Falcons made it a 2-1 game. Austin Bennett got a lead-off walk, but was forced out at second base on a Ben Ross ground ball. Wildes hit a single that moved Ross to second. Daniel Sage was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Ross then scored on a fielder’s choice.

The Falcons took the lead in the fourth inning. Wildes reached first base on a Coupeville error. Sage hit a line drive to center field for a single that put two Falcon runners on base. Michael Agate singled to left-center field to score two RBIs.

Wildes finished the game and allowed only two base runners in the last four innings.

The win was the second in a row against the Wolves. It was a close game through four innings as the Falcons won 2-0 on Tuesday.

Falcon pitcher Jack Lewis got his first win of the season. He struck out 10 Coupeville hitters behind strong command of his breaking ball, and walked only two hitters.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Falcons scored what proved to be the winning run. Aaron Curfman advanced to second base on a throwing error at first base. Curfman stole third, then scored on a fielder’s choice.

Lewis scattered two hits on the day and allowed only four base runners in seven innings.
