Falcon volleyball advances in District 1 tournament

LYNDEN - South Whidbey split its first round playoff matches against Lynden and Burlington-Edison on Wednesday. The Falcon volleyball team beat the Lynden Lions 3-2, then lost 0-3 to the Burlington-Edison Tigers.

LYNDEN – South Whidbey split its first round playoff matches against Lynden and Burlington-Edison on Wednesday. The Falcon volleyball team beat the Lynden Lions 3-2, then lost 0-3 to the Burlington-Edison Tigers.

Against the Lions (10-3), the Falcons won the odd sets (first, third and fifth), and put the match away on a surge in the final set. South Whidbey won 25-23, 22-25, 25-16, 23-25, 15-7.

Burlington-Edison entered the Northwest District 1 volleyball tournament the top-ranked and only undefeated team at 13-0. The Tigers played like the tournament favorite, beating Mount Baker in three sets prior to sweeping the Falcons 25-11, 25-19 and 25-10.

South Whidbey returns to Langley to host Cascade Conference rival Archbishop Murphy at noon Saturday. The Wildcats lost to the Sehome Mariners 3-2 and swept the Lakewood Cougars 3-0 to advance.
