Scoring all its runs in two early innings, the South Whidbey High School softball team ran by visiting Bellevue Christian 10-3 Wednesday, March 21.
The Falcons scored five runs in both the second and third innings, and that was more than enough to back a strong pitching performance by Mackenzee Collins.
Collins struck out 15 and walked only one in her six-hitter.
A double by Collins highlighted the five-run second. Natalie Wilmoth and Melody Wilkie added singles in the inning, and Sophia Olson, Myah Majestic, Shelby Campbell, Bella Northrup and Wilmoth all walked. Ari Marshal was hit by a pitch.
Wilmoth’s double was South Whidbey’s only hit in the third. The Falcons were helped by two errors, a hit batter (Majestic) and walks to Campbell, Olson and Lexi Starets-Foote.
Wilmoth finished the day 3-for-3, with a run, walk and RBI.
Wilkie had two base hits, scored two runs and knocked in one.
Bekah Merrow scored two runs on two walks.
Collins had two RBI to go along with her double.
South Whidbey (2-1) plays at La Conner (0-1) at 4 p.m. Friday, March 23.
