For the third time this season, the South Whidbey High School baseball team spun a no-hitter, this time beating visiting Sultan 10-0 in five innings Friday, April 5.
It was also the Falcons’ sixth shutout of 2019, as South Whidbey upped its North Sound Conference record to 8-1 and overall mark to 11-1.
South Whidbey used multiple pitchers in all three no-hitters, and Brent Batchelor and Ethan Petty have been part of each.
Batchelor pitched the first three innings Friday and finished with three strikeouts, a walk and a hit batter.
Petty fired the final two innings and fanned five and walked one.
Batchelor was also the hitting star, going 3-for-3 with two runs. Petty singled and scored in his only at bat.
South Whidbey jumped on the Turks in the first inning with five runs. Two errors, a double by Aston Leland and singles by Nick Black, Kody Newman and Batchelor fueled the inning.
In the third, Drew Fry and Nick Young sandwiched base hits around a double by Batchelor for two more runs.
The Falcons wrapped up the scoring with three runs in the fourth. South Whidbey blended hits by Petty and Batchelor with three walks and a balk to plate the runs.
The Falcons face Coupeville in a three-games series next week. The teams play in Coupeville (0-6, 0-10) at 4 p.m. Monday and Friday, April 8 and 12, and in Langley at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 10.
