Scoring in five different innings, the South Whidbey High School softball team steadily pulled away host Cedar Park Christian-Bothell for a 7-1 win Thursday, April 5.
The Falcons had nine hits spread among seven starters and pitcher Mackenzee Collins tossed a two-hit, 13-strikeout gem to lead South Whidbey to its sixth win in eight games.
The victory also broke a tie for second place in the Cascade Conference with Cedar Park Christian (2-2, 4-4).
The Falcons (3-1, 6-2) will play for the league lead when they go to unbeaten Cedarcrest (3-0, 5-0) at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 10.

The Eagles scored their one run in the bottom of the first inning off a hit, two stolen bases and a sacrifice bunt.
The Falcons responded with a run in the top of the second and played add-on from that point as Collins blanked CPC the rest of the way.
In the second inning, Bekah Merrow hit a two-out single and then scored on Ari Marshall’s double.
The Falcons took the lead for good with a run in the third when Makenna Morley tripled and scored on a passed ball.
Marshall boarded on an error in the fifth and was chased home on Bella Northrup’s double. Northrup eventually scored on a passed ball.
Natalie Wilmoth led off the sixth by being hit by a pitch, was singled to second by Melody Wilkie and scored after a ground out and passed ball.
Northrup reached on an error in the seventh, then singles by Myah Majestic and Collins resulted in the final two runs.
Majestic and Morley each finished with two hits, a run and an RBI.
